MOSCATO

The sweetest and most elegant of all.

History

White varieties in almost all the Italian peninsula and is the fourth area planted to white grapes. Corresponds to the French vine "muscat blanc à petit grains". The name probably derives from muscum, moss, whose characteristic flavour is found in grapes (Musquito for the French) and, most likely corresponds to Anathelicon Moschaton of the Greeks and the Romans Apiana grapes.   

Viticulture and winemaking

Environmental and cultural characteristics and needs:
It has medium leaf, pentagonal, three-lobed or five-lobed, medium cluster, cylindrical-pyramidal, winged by a compact semi-sparse, the berry can be medium or medium-sized, spherical or slightly flattened, with thin, yellow- green, tending to gold if properly exposed to the sun is covered with a thin layer of frost, the flesh has a sweet taste and aroma. It prefers soils with marl-limestone, clay and not too wet, dry and windy climate. It has good production and steady and tolerates summer drought. The farming systems must be expanded.

Diseases and adversity:

It's very sensitive to powdery mildew, downy mildew, and esca, also fears the botrytis and sour rot. Tolerate fairly the cold weather. Its wealth of sugars in the mature phase favours the attack of insects and wasps.
