FRIULANO (Tocai)
History
White grape, yet nebulous origins, believed to have been imported from Hungary in Veneto and Friuli, but has no similarity with the grapes of that region. It is still wrongly confused with Tokay, which is the name of a Hungarian wine.
Viticulture and winemaking
Its leaf is medium to large, orbicular or pentagonal, three-lobed, medium cluster, pyramidal, rather compact, with two wings, one of which is sometimes very pronounced, medium berry, nodular yellow-green skin. It's a very productive variety but constantly suffering moisture, it is in fact susceptible to bunch rot, esca, downy mildew and powdery mildew. It is cultivated mainly in Guyot, Casarsa and Cordon systems.
