2016 Cecchetto GELSAIA Piave Malanotte D.O.C.G.

A powerful and elegant expression of Veneto’s native Raboso Piave grape, the 2016 Gelsaia Malanotte D.O.C.G. from Cecchetto is a masterfully crafted red wine that celebrates tradition and terroir.

Harvested in late October, a portion of the grapes undergoes a traditional appassimento (drying) period of around 35 days, intensifying flavours and structure. The wine is then aged in barrels made from local woods for 12 months, followed by 10 months of bottle ageing prior to release.

Deep ruby in colour, the nose offers aromas of sour cherry jam, dried plum, cocoa, rhubarb, and exotic spice. On the palate, it’s rich and full-bodied with fine-grained tannins, layers of dark fruit, and a long, dry finish that lingers with earthy depth and warmth.

RECOMMENDED PAIRINGS: A must try with grilled meat such as lamb cutlets and beef, slow cooked venison and game, and elaborate pasta dishes. This is an Amarone-like meditation wine and can be sipped and enjoyed solo as well.
